Westend History

The West End of London is basically a large area located in the central part of London in England which includes a number of major tourist attractions, administrative and business headquarters of the city. The city of West End also includes most of the major theaters and thus the term West End has become most identical with commercial theaters of London. Symbolically and colloquially the West End city is also considered to be the financial base with three main features. It holds the city for finance, the Westminister for the government and the West End city for retain and entertainment.

The location

Being ideally located to the west of the historic Mediaeval and Roman city of London the West End city has been long privileged by the rich leaders as their residence place which was usually because the city was upwind of the smoke that drifted from the nearby crowded city. The city is also located near the royal seat of power at the Westminister and it includes large part of Westminister city. The City of West which was built in the 17th, 18th and 19th century was actually built as a series of luxurious palaces, fashionable shops, expensive town houses and a place for entertainment. The areas that are closer to the city like Covent Garden, Seven Dials and Halborn had historically contained much poorer communities which were cleared and were redeveloped during the 19th century.

About the city

The name of the city West End is a stretchy word that incorporates several meanings in different circumstances. The name can refer to the entertainment cities around the Covent Garden and Leicester Square, to the entertainment and shopping cities flowing the Oxford street, Bond Street and Regent Street. The name is also less commonly referred to the whole part of central London which although lies to the west of the city. It is also among the two international centres that are identified in London Plan with the other being Knightsbridge.

In addition to this there is also a local government ward that is located within the Westminister city that is also called as West End. It has been bounded by the Grosvenor Place to the west, the Thames to the south east, Long Acre and Piccadily to the north, City of London to the east and Horseferry Road and the Victoria Street to the south. The districts that are located to the west, south and north of Kensighton Gardens and Hyde Park were developed during the late nineteenth century which was actually based on according to some existing villages. The most fashionable among the districts of West End were generally regarded to be in the city at very early development period of the city. The city of West End is also a great place for people who are musical show lovers.
